ART is a psychotherapy technique rooted in existing evidence-based therapies that provides rapid relief from distressful trauma symptoms, anxiety, and other issues.
You may have heard of Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Yet, you may not know why a growing number of army hospitals are using it to treat PTSD. The answer is in the name itself. Accelerated Resolution Therapy is accelerated, meaning you can find relief in as few as one to five sessions. As a result, many people who are living with PTSD are finding hope and healing. You, too, may be able to gain freedom from your trauma triggers.
Before we tell you why therapists choose ART as their approach first, let's better define Accelerated Response Therapy (ART) and how you can benefit from it.
ART works by temporarily reactivating the traumatic memory using relaxing eye movements. When the memory is accessed it can be permanently changed using ART's protocols and techniques. While the client knows that the changes are not the actual memory, it provides a new start for the client. The clients Trigger Origin is changed or removed which provides rapid emotional relief. ART's motto is to keep the knowledge and lose the pain. Once the session is complete, you will still have the facts of the memory, but you will lose the painful images, emotions, and sensations that were once a part of the memory.
The client is always in control during an ART session and is guided by the therapist. With the guidance of a therapist, the client pictures the traumatic memory in their mind while doing sets of eye movements. The associated emotions and sensations from the memory are processed through, and are desensitized. While it can be difficult, scary, or painful to reactivate the memory, this discomfort is temporary and rapid relief follows. Most clients experience significant levels of relief after only one hour of treatment.
ART is used to treat betrayal trauma, PTSD, and other forms of trauma. Clients suffering from other mental health challenges can experience remarkable benefits. Some of these challenges include: Addiction, Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Greif & Loss, Family Issues, and Phobias.

People of all ages can benefit from Accelerated Resolution Therapy. Young children, teens, women, men, civilians, and soldiers can participate in ART. Likewise, it's proving to help people struggling with depression and PTSD.
Since ART doesn't require people to relive their traumatic event, it appeals to people who don't like to share their emotions. This is one of the reasons why it seems to work well in military hospitals.
There are a few basic skills you'll need to benefit from Accelerated Resolution Therapy. For example, you'll need to be able to track a therapist's hand with your eyes and concentrate. If you can do this, then you are likely to be able to try this approach to healing.
Experts have created three categories (or clusters) of PTSD symptoms. Symptoms will generally persist for at least a month and for many survivors, these signs represent their first struggles with anxiety. The symptoms fall into the categories of re-experiencing the traumatic event, avoidance of reminders of the trauma and responses of hyperarousal.
Trauma depends on many factors, including a person's perception of and proximity to the event. In general, traumatic events expose the child to death, serious injury, or violence. Here are some examples of events that could lead to PTSD in children: car accidents, natural disasters, etc.
Trauma triggers can be very intense negative emotional reactions that lead to unhappiness, decreased ability to function, sleep problems, relationship problems, and other issues. Traditional talk therapy can be helpful, however many times just talking about trauma does not resolve trauma. This is why specialized therapy is needed. With ART's specialized protocols, rapid relief from the negative impact of trauma can be experienced. ART has been shown to decrease or eliminate PTSD symptoms in as little as 3 to 4 therapy sessions.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is showing quicker results and may be more effective. As it continues to prove to be successful, more people will have access to it.
If you have PTSD, recently experienced a traumatic experiences, or suffer from any other trauma symptoms, Accelerated Resolution Therapy may help. There is hope for you to live a healthier life, especially if you've experienced trauma symptoms throughout your lifetime. Likewise prolonged exposure to trauma symptoms can cause systemic, hormonal changes to the chemistry of the brain.
Trauma symptoms are common in people who have suffered childhood abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect. If left untreated, these symptoms may also contribute to more complex physical and mental health issues later in life. For example, PTSD, substance abuse, eating disorders, inappropriate sexual activity, and other behavioral problems.
